Iris Agates are cut thin to allow for maximum light dispersion. A thinner slice permits more light to enter the stone, where it is refracted at a brighter hue and colour range.

Polished both sides. Shown in standard lighting as well as BACKLIT using a torch. The rainbows in Iris Agate are an optical phenomenon caused by the arrangement of banding within the agate. When backlit at the correct angle, the bands will flame out into shifting rainbow hues. They are only visible with backlighting. A stronger light will produce brighter colours. Please note that the optimal angle is usually a little down and angled away from the direct line of the backlight.
